Family Self-Sufficiency Program
Improving the quality of life and building self-esteem
What is family self-sufficiency?
The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is designed to help individuals and families improve the quality of their lives. FSS can assist you whether or not you receive public assistance or other social service supports.
Included as part of FSS are counceling and referal services, provided on an individual basis, in the following areas:
- Education
- Job Training
- Employment Opportunites
- Childcare
- Transportation
- Budgeting
- Credit Assistance
- Homeownership
- Career Advancement
- Business Start up
Selection Criteria
The following areas will be considered:
- Rent paying habits in accordance with lease.
- Letter of reccomendation from landlord, housing manager, pastor or other human service provider.
- Previous participation in other FSS type services/activites, (ie, continuing education, job training, etc.)
- Attendance at FSS orientation session.
- Preliminary interview/assessment.
- Date of application.
- Length of time a resident of public housing.
- Volunteer service to community, civic and/or church organizations.
- Level of interest and motivation to participate in the FSS program.
How to Apply
Public housing residents should call your housing manager or 336-226-8422, extention 210 or 220.
All residents must complete a FSS application and appear at a scheduled preliminary interview.
Qualifications
- Must be public housing resident
- 18 years of age or older
- Willing to seek and/or maintain employment
- Head of household must sign a Contract of Participation
- Willing to participate in educational, job training and/or career advancement programs
- No prior history of criminal or violent activity
